I have a very sweet 92 year-old friend who, sadly, has had a very difficult life, filled with a lot of sadness and not enough kindness. Whenever anyone does even the smallest thing for her, she is so appreciative that you feel like you just made her week.
I was taking her home from grocery shopping one day and she got dizzy. I helped her into her home, helped her to the couch and went to the kitchen to get her water so that she could take her medication. She was so overwhelmed by what she thought was an epic act of kindness that she spoke about it for months. It made me sad for her that something so small was so significant to her because she had not received much kindness from others in her life. Little acts can have a big impact on people.
