Three Minutes, Three Clean Spaces

Three Minutes, Three Clean Spaces
What can you get done in three minutes? Set your timer and find out.

If you’re like me, your life is pretty packed and you don’t have a lot of time to get things done. It can make your life seem overwhelming when everywhere you look there is clutter or a giant to do list to get through.

I’ve decided to start a three minute series, to find ways to get things done in three minutes or less. I hope these ideas will be helpful to you and together we can get through our never ending lists and practice self-care.

Today, we’ll try three minutes, three clean spaces. I always feel like I don’t have enough time to clean/clear up messes so I will just wait until I have more time. Except, I never have time, so nothing gets done. Here are three things that can be done in three minutes. Everyone has three minutes, so if we do something every day, eventually, life will feel more orderly.

Paper Clutter

My biggest mess is paper clutter. We have bills, junk mail (although, if you check here, you can find out how to reduce your paper clutter), papers from both kids’ schools, medical bills, etc., etc., etc. I don’t have time to file everything all at once, so I’m going to set a timer for three minutes, stand next to our mail landing spot with a recycle bin and put everything that isn’t important in the bin. If I still have time left on the clock, I’ll stack the papers according to whether they need to be dealt with or filed and by category so that the next time I have three minutes, I can file away.

Paper clutter mountain, slowly shrinking.

Bathroom Duty

Cleaning the bathroom falls pretty low on my list of favorite activities, but of course, this is a necessary evil. Because it seems like such a daunting task, I try to avoid it, but really, it doesn’t actually take too long to do each individual task, so if we do one a day, we’ll eventually have a clean space. So, pick a task and do one at a time – clean the toilet, clean the mirror and sink, clean the floor, do the tub or shower on another day and the bathroom will be done relatively painlessly.

Throw Out Old Food

My husband and I are both guilty of pretending we don’t see the old food hiding in the back of the fridge, so we don’t have to deal with throwing it out and cleaning the containers. This doesn’t actually take a long time, it’s just gross.

So here goes, get a brown paper bag, set it next to the open fridge, set your time for three minutes and get to it. Pull out as many containers as you can in 75 seconds and dump them in the paper bag. Take the remaining 75 seconds to wash the containers and dump the bag in the trash outside, because if you leave food in the fridge as long as we do, it will probably smell.

That’s it, three cleaning chores done in three minutes. I hope you enjoy this series and join me in moving through the ever-growing list of things to do.
